Description

Tulip Nebula is located 6,000 light-years away from Earth and can be found in the constellation Cygnus. It was discovered in 1959 by astronomer Stewart Sharpless and is numbered Sh2-101 in his catalog. The ultraviolet radiation from a young energetic O star, HDE 227018, ionizes the sulfur, hydrogen, oxygen, and other gases that compose the nebula and powers the Tulip's beautiful glow. HDE 227018 can be seen glowing brilliantly in the middle of the nebula, near the small blue arc. The Tulip Nebula is also in close proximity to micro quasar Cygnus X-1, which was one of the first suspected black holes.

I have processed these data a dozen time, looking for the right treatment to highlight the beauty of the Tulip Nebula against the backdrop of the gas and dust of Cygnus. This is my latest attempt.
