Description

Sharpless 101 (Sh2-101) is a H II region located at a distance of about 6,000 light years from Earth, in the constellation Cygnus. This beautiful emission nebula was first cataloged by Stewart Sharpless in his 1959 catalog of nebula and is frequently called the Tulip Nebula due to it resembling the outline of a common spring-blooming perennial.

The image was captured using 6nm Ha, Oiii, and Sii filters and combined using a slightly mixed version of the Hubble Palette (R=20% Ha + 80% Sii, G= 80% Ha + 10% Sii + 10% Oiii, B= 100% Oiii). Additionally, a synthetic luminance channel was created using the SHO-AIP script in Pixinsight using 100% of the Ha stack and 50% of both the Oii and Sii stacks.
