Description

This image is the sum of many (total 62 hours and 8 minutes) unguided subs taken during the nights of July 2021 from my Bortle 8 sky. Equipment used was a Canon 70-200 F4 lens (at 100 FL) an Asi 533, an optolong l-extreme filter and an Ioptron Smart eq mount.

Image has many huge gradients. To correct them I have used Pixinsight, but I am not confident in using that software. If some of you, wants to try to process this image, can download the fits from the approriate below link. Pls note that you might receive a secure warning from you browser. But this server is safe.

vdB 149 is a reflection nebula visible in the constellation of Cepheus.

It is located about a quarter on the line joining the stars Alfirk (β Cephei) and Alrai (γ Cephei), in a region rich in dark molecular clouds; in particular, vdB 149 seems to be part of the great dark nebula LDN 1235, although studies on the radial velocity indicate that it would be in its direction only for a perspective effect. The star responsible for the illumination of the region is BD + 72 1018, a blue-white star of the main sequence of spectral class B8V, which gives the gases and dust it illuminates a markedly bluish color, weakly overheating and causing them to emit infrared radiation. , also observed by IRAS; its parallax, measured in 3.20 ± 0.63 mas, which corresponds to a distance of about 312 parsecs (1019 light years), would indicate on the contrary a distance similar to that of vdB 150, visible a little further north and certainly part of nebula LDN 1235. The orange star of seventh magnitude HD 210615, visible just south of vdB 149, is not part of the region, being more in the foreground. (italian wikipedia page translated with google transaltor)
