Description

The Torrey House - Alpenglow Observatory sits on Moenkopi/Shinarump formation sandstone that is around 250 million years old, formed when what is now Utah was ancient seabed near the equator. Coma B, the galaxy in the center of this frame is about 300 million light years away. The light from Coma B started on its way to my telescope before the rock the observatory sits on existed. Or humans.

This 12.5 hour exposure was taken over several nights in April, toward the end of galaxy season when the Milky Way is on the horizon and straight overhead is looking directly out through the flat part of the disk of our galaxy. Most of the objects in this frame are other galaxies.

Thinking about it even for a minute makes me smile.

Dark skies to you.
