Description

This is my first attempt at a little planetary imaging project I've had in mind for this year. The idea is to capture a 'widefield' view of Jupiter and the Galilean moons with my APO refractor over the course of a few hours (about as long as I can continuously view Jupiter from my backyard) to generate an animation showing the orbital motions of the moons. It took some fiddling around to get Jupiter centered and focused on my old ASI120MC with the APO and a 2x barlow. This combination should give me a focal length of about 800mm (Firecapture says 900-1000 mm so pretty close). On this night I was able to get Jupiter, Europa (transiting at the start of the imaging session), Ganymede, and Io in the field of view. I'd really like to get all four Galilean satellites in the field of view but with only a night or two a month of imaging lately that will be lucky indeed. Will try again when I get a chance and if I can bring myself to forgoe imaging opportunities with the SCT give it a go with the ASI224MC as well....
