Description

I had originally planned to go to Echo Bluff State Park to help out with their public event, but found myself without a ride willing to make the ~3 hour drive... instead I travelled out to my local astronomy park about 40 minutes away to image a target outside of the main city light dome.

At first, I was going to add more data of the Iris Nebula, but then moved onto the Cocoon Nebula, and ultimately landed on the Hourglass region of the Lagoon Nebula (which was an anticipated target for a while). Since the target was outside of the light dome entirely, I was able to get an unprecedented SNR with only 100 second subs.

I might revise the image eventually to try and battle some corrections or make the image sharper, but I am really happy with this!

Description: Instant revision: enhanced texture, boosted fainter nebulosity, and enhanced color further, did both less crunchy/more fuzzy and selective noise reduction to the fainter regions to combat crunchiness.

C

Description: Reprocessed as a luminance layer to reduce amp-glow at the corners. Better balance with the dynamic range making the image much smoother. Other details were done in StarTools. Color is much more cherry red as opposed to almost a burnt orange. Restacking allowed me to use 103 frames as opposed to 96.

Description: Here's a REALLY experimental process update.. HSO processing with only using the color channels produced by the broadband data and meticulous channel processing. Channels rearranged, specific channel boosts and color hue adjustments applied. Invert > HLVG to reduce magenta noise. Texture and clarity boosts applied. As I plan on doing HSO-pallet and LRGB astrophotography with a mono-cam by the turn of the year, I was interested in seeing how much dynamic color adjustments I could do with some old images from earlier this year. The lagoon nebula has so much color in the hubble pallet, making it a great project to test that out.

Description: minor background cleanup and darker nebulosity contrast

F

Description: Cleaned up very overt magenta coloring, brought the temperature up, and tinted the colors a bit more on the green side to make the blues a little more aqua and oranges a little more yellow. Small cosmetic adjustments applied elsewhere.

G

Description: Magenta reduced further, orange coloring adjusted slightly.

H

Description: Luminance reprocessing (used old version as color layer to preserve the color balance). Highlights are less blown out, details look more natural overall. Image is drizzled 2x in order to preserve finer details.
