Description

This object is a small barred face-on spiral galaxy located 50 million light years away in the southern constellation of Lupus. Its apparent diameter of 4 arc-minutes corresponds to a true diameter of 60,000 light years.

Looking closely, the central region of this galaxy consists of 3 components - a tight core, a surrounding elliptical bulge, and a fairly long bar. The axis of the bar is not quite aligned with the bulge (about 30 degrees difference). Several angled Vorontsov-Velyaminov rows are visible in the galaxy arms, the most prominent one being right above the core.
