Description

Milky Way over the Shenandoah Valley – Group 3- A Time Lapse Project

This is the third of three (and the last) Time Lapse images of the Milky Way. Location: 38° 4’ 39.72’ North by 78° 48’ 9.36” West, Calf Mountain Overlook on the Skyline Drive. I started shooting at 1:41 am, July 1, 2019 and finished 2:58 am. I used the modified Canon T71 and the Rokinon 16 mm lens, f/2.4, ISO 3200, and 25 second shutter speed shooting ever 60 seconds. I have learned a bit on this project, first not to use the modified Canon T7i, the ground looks unnatural, and I will use the T7i only for the night sky. I am looking hard at the Skyguider Pro for the Canon T7i. I have ordered a Canon T3i unmodified and will use it for these time lapses. The second thing I learned was not to use the Skywatcher All View in the Astronomy mode but use it in the Time Lapse mode; I should be able to shoot up to 720 images for the time lapse (depending on the battery), it will much smoother, and it will be one time lapse instead of three. However, another Milky Way time lapse may have to wait until next year as the weather here on the east coast will just get worse; my window was this past weekend and I may not get another clear sky night like the one I had and be off work at the same time. I am looking forward to more practice and another go at it next year. Clear Skies to all.
