Description

This object is a uniquely shaped dark nebula located in the dust and star filled constellation of Ophiuchus at a latitude of -22 degrees. Unfortunately, typical for dark nebulae, not much has been written about this object. The nebula spans about 40 arc-minutes in the sky. I could not find a distance estimate for this object, but similar dark nebula in this region typically lie about 500 light years away. If that is true for this object, its true diameter would be about 6 light years.

I find the shape of this dark concentration of dust and molecular gas to be very interesting - a rough half-circle, with spurs around the inner circumference.
