Description

I am excited to publish my second image in as many months (rather than in as many years).

The data for this image was collected a few weeks ago at the Rocky Mountain Star Stare (my first time attending that fine event). I captured a fair amount of Ha data for this image, partially because the moon was up for significant amounts of the nights while I was imaging.

My son, Josh Smith, coached me a bit on the processing. On my first run through, I ended up with a nice enough image, but it was fairly flat and monochromatically red. He shared some ideas to help bring out some variation in the colors and to differentiate between the emission nebula and the dust. This made for a more interesting image with more dimension.

The Propeller Nebula is a bit mysterious... I have seen many images of it, both professional and amateur, but it seems like its cause or origin is completely not understood.

Cs and Cs are welcome, and thanks for looking!
