Description

Jupiter after cleaning of the mirrors on the Newtonian.

The volcanically active inner moon Io is on the limb of Jupiter and about to transit across the face of the planet.

Imaged from Lysterfield, Melbourne.

At this time of the year Jupiter is near its closest approach to earth (i.e. at "opposition") and hence largest in the field of view, making June a good time to capture astro-photographs of Jupiter - King of the Planets.

Stack of 1250 frames - processed in AutoStakkert 3.0.14, Registrax 6 and Lightroom.
