Description

Messier 39 is an open cluster in the constellation Cygnus and lies some 1000 light years away. It has a total brightness of around magnitude 5.5 and it's angular size is about as large as the full moon. Also visible in this image and highlighted in the annotated version are the surrounding dark nebulae and a small planetary nebula to the upper left - Miknowski 1-79, which is 30 arcseconds across and 8650 light years away.
