Description

This is a photo, (technically photos...), of the lunar eclipse, that occurred this past January, over Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument

The evening started out cloudy but cleared to on and off haze just before the eclipse began.

I shot the stars a couple of nights later using the Astrotracer function and 30 second exposures. The stars are accurately placed relative to the sharpest Moon, just past totality, when the sky cleared momentarily. The entire image is astronomically accurate. Although I make no claims to it being perfectly precise, it is pretty close. Other astronomical objects include the Beehive Star Cluster, (Messier 44), and the stars Castor and Pollux in the constellation Gemini.

All images shot with my Pentax K3 II.
