Description

I've been working on capturing an image of Jupiter and all four Galilean moons for the past few months. Tough to find a night with reasonable conditions when all four are close enough to Jupiter to fit in the field of view of my SCT (I also was working on using my APO refractor, but while the FOV was better the resolution wasn't very satisfactory). Well, thing finally came together on the night of July 14th. The seeing was far from the best I've experiences this year (below average to average at best), but I managed to get the image. As a bonus, the GRS nicely in the view as well. I went with the Baader Moon & Skyglow filter since Jupiter was in conjunction with the Moon on this night and the skyglow near Jupiter was really strong. I'm still kicking myself for not getting a few wide field shots of the Moon and Jupiter that night...

Imaged with a C8 Evo, ZWO ADC, Baader Moon & Skyglow filter, and ZWO ASI224MC. Imaging train was configured to give me ~F/10. Image capture using Sharpcap with gain set at 300 and exposure of ~3 ms. Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (best 50% of ~10,000 frames captured over 180 seconds). Color balancing and Wavelet sharpening in Registax6.
