Description

Fulbert Picot was a French amateur astronomer who first formally identified the asterism (Picot 1), and who also gave it its nickname (Napolean's Hat). I didn't even know that one could name asterisms, so I have learned something new today and now this object has been worthwhile for me!

The asterism is 20 arc-minutes long in our apparent view and is very easy to find in the eyepiece, being immediately adjacent to the bright star Arcturus in the constellation of Bootes. This is a surprisingly empty field of view with few background galaxies.
