Description

Happy (belated) 4th of July! We recently celebrated independence day here in the USA and I wanted to capture a tribute to our awesome country. I figured that this galaxy would be a perfect starting point (I also captured another DSO for this series and I'll let you guess which one). The Fireworks galaxy (so named because of the very bright and prominent Ha and OIII regions it boasts throughout its structure) is 25.2 million light years from Earth and is approximately 40,000 light years across. It is categorized as an active starburst galaxy thanks to the aforementioned prolific star formation. Enjoy and again happy 4th!
