Canon T3i Test #3 – A Time Lapse Project

This was a test of the new/used Canon T3i and the Skywatcher All View in Time Lapse mode. I also wanted to test the battery life for the T3i (only 3 hours) and test the Skywatcher mount in the Time Lapse mode for the first time. I shot on JGP Large and the battery only lasted for 278 images. I could have spaced them further apart so lesson learned. This isn’t the greatest sky view and I chose this for two reasons, (a) it is my front yard so I could leave the setup all night without any worries and (b) I wanted to show you what a crappy sky I have due to these really tall trees (100 foot plus, 30 meters). I started shooting in the East and wanted to go 180° and end in the West but I only got a bit past due South. Here are my settings: Canon T3i and the Rokinon 16 mm lens, ISO 1600, f/2.8, 25 second shutter speed, shooting every 30 seconds. I started shooting at 9:06 pm until 12:15 am, I wanted to show going from dusk into night. Because if the tall trees you can only see the tail end of the Milky Way, there is a small sighting of Jupiter and Saturn if you know where to watch. My next test will improve on the lessons learned here and, if I can, have a better view of the night sky and maybe the Milky Way if I get lucky.
