Description

The Pelican is an iconic target but hard to process (just look at how few IOTD of this image exists on ABIN while there are probably 20+ pages of various versions).

After 3 weeks of head scratching and about 10 versions, I almost gave up but it was not reasonable to throw almost 24h of integration.

Color balance is hard so I opted for an overall compromise where I would get blue tones in the left part of the pelican, purple in the center, reds in the right part, pinks in the head and browns in the upperleft dusts and bottom center right of the body (see various image rev)

As always you are tempted to go overboard in terms of color saturation, contrasts , decon... Not sure I mastered it but now I can sleep peacefully and let this epic bird fly away.
Unfortunately the ZWO O3 filter is spitting out nasty halos that are very hard to process around large stars.
Deconvolution was very effective and recovered tons of details.
I also made the choice not to leave the image at it's native scale and denoising was made only in the linear stage with TGV.

Will revisit it next year by adding SII and we'll see what comes out of it.
