Description

I thought it may be fun to see what a little action camera is capable of. As it turns out, a GoPro is capable of quite a lot!

This view encompasses a large swath of our home galaxy, from Rho Ophiuchus at the bottom to the North American nebula at the top. Though the GoPro struggles to pull in the red glow of ionized hydrogen, the stars and dust came through just fine.

I’ve got a few more things to try out here to improve a bit more, I felt this one was worth a share. The Hero7 Black uses a sensitive back-illuminated Sony IMX277 sensor and though the 1.55 micron pixels are small for astrophotography, the ultra-wide angle fixed lens enables decent long exposure performance. If you know anyone that modifies these things for Ha sensitivity, let me know 😂.

I haven’t been too active on Astrobin lately. My apologies, I’m still here!
