Description

M51, aka Whirlpool Galaxy, lies in Canes Venatici constellation. It's from 15 to 37 million light-years away from earth, and 50/100K light-years wide.

It's a spiral galaxy, influencing the NGC 5195 (o M51B) galactic tide. The iteration between them speeds up stars creation.

M51 is part of "M51 group" galaxies which includes: M63, NGC 5023 e NGC 5229 and a bit more.

Zooming the picture 2 more galaxies appear: IC 4263 on the lower-right and NGC 5169 on the bottom-right corner
