Description

IC 2944 is an open cluster with an associated emission nebula found in the constellation Centaurus, near the star Lambda Centauri at a visual magnitude of +3.1 and lies 420 light years away. It features Bok globules, which are frequently a site of active star formation. IC 2944 lies around 6500 light away from Earth and its around 75 lights years in diameter.
