Description

It's been a long time since I got some serious imaging done. All June and much of July I was fighting with a new mount that ended up being returned. Before that the weather was horrible for, oh about the last two years, lol... A few weeks ago I purchased my dream mount, a new-to-me second hand Mach 1, and right out the gate it has performed superbly! I'm getting the best data... perhaps ever. I installed this mount in the new slide off roof Obsy I built this spring, and I'm having fun again doing astrophotography. It feels like those first few months when every clear night was met with great anticipation.

Anyway, for the last week I decided to image the Eastern Veil. I've always been drawn to the electric feel of this target and I imaged it with a camera lens a few years ago. Since then I have wanted to do some part of it in high resolution. My Newt with Paracorr is 920mm FL and with the small pixels of the 6120 my image scale is right around .7"/px.

I'm uploading two versions of this image. One as a straight SHO and one as a custom hubble blend. This is the Hubble Blend. I killed most of the green as I normally do and kept blues and oranges as true as I could.

The blend is:

R=.4*Ha + .6*Sii

G=.4*Oiii + .3*Ha + .3*Sii

B=Oiii

One thing that is really great about this target is that there is a very strong signal in all three narrowband channels. I was actually really surprised to see how strong Sii was. Thanks for looking!
