The Pelican Nebula (IC 5070) is an area of active star formation located around 2,000 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus. IC 5067 is a prominent ridge in the 'head' of the Pelican - it
is around 10 light years long (according to APOD).
In the centre of this image a long dark column extends upwards from the ridge towards the Pelican's 'eye'. At the tip of this column, two faint jets can be seen extending outwards horizontally. This is Herbig-Haro Object 555. ['Herbig-Haro' refers to George Herbig (1920 - 2013) and Guillermo Haro (1913 - 1988) - the first astronomers to study these objects in detail.]
According to a paper on the McGill site "Herbig-Haro objects are small patches of nebulosity associated with newly-born stars, and are formed when gas ejected by young stars collides with clouds of gas and dust nearby at speeds of several hundred kilometres per second" [

HH 555 is the most prominent, but not the only, Herbig-Haro object visible in this image.
IC 5067 was photographed between 10 July and 4 August 2019 from an imaging rig in Spain that is privately-owned and remotely-operated by Barry Wilson and me.
