Description

This is an interesting area in the constellation Cepheus with some nice colorful sections:

Top left: Sh2-155, the cave nebula. This is a HII emission area, with gas are ionized by ultraviolet light from hot young stars, the Cepheus OB3 association.

Bottom right: The blue reflection nebula vdB155 (also catalogued as LBN 524).

Bottom centre: Star forming region CEPHEUS A. The big orange patch is HH 168, while HH 169 is the orange area a bit to the left and a much smaller area (HH 174) a bit further to the left.

In these Herbig Haro regions narrow jets of partially ionized gas from newborn stars shock the gas surrounding them, causing emission (primarily in IR).

First light of the imaging season (approx 2 hours of darkness per night).

This is the second image where PixInsight was part of the processing chain. APP is still my pre-processing champion. PI has a nice set of tools to play with (altough processing was fairly straightforward). I have spent a lot of time in keeping the star sizes under control. Starnet++ was a great help in achieving this. As per my usual workflow I develop several variants of the same image and combine them in various ratios to get the version that is the most pleasing to my eye..
