Description

The Iris Nebula (LBN 487) in Cepheus lies 1300 ly away and is 6 ly across. The cluster of stars within the nebula is designated as NGC 7023. These designations are often used interchangeably. The nebula is illuminated largely by V380 Cep, a light blue 7-mag star with a B-V color index of 0.32.

I wanted to focus in on this nebulosity since I find the churning dark dust immediately surrounding the bright core mesmerizing.

I hope you enjoy.
