Description

I really like the ring nebula, but alas it is so small on my sensor, even when using my fast 8" reflector, and it is impossible to process even if I try. As that is so, I no longer image it. So, my experiment was to use a 2x Barlow and see if that made any difference. In so doing, my 8" scope in effect became f8 with a 1600mm focal length.

Sadly, the Barlow created a mis-aligment of the individual RGB colours, and so nearer to the edge of the field the star colours are not aligned - they look even worse than they do in the middle! Also, the balance of the scope was even more tricky than it normally is, and so that has added to the issues of misshapen stars too - and this is a heavily cropped version! But, what I have achieved is some reasonable detail in the main object itself - so I thought I would post it, in spite of struggling to control the background as well. Could anything else go wrong with trying to image this? Anyway, it was 34 subs at 7 minutes long each, using my Canon 700Da. I hope you like it...
