Description

Sep 12, I took 100,000 images of Jupiter via webcam / AVI. 15 videos, 4 minutes each at 30 frames per second. I chose one video, then chose the best 15% of the images in that video (via RegiStax), and stacked the 1,086 frames. I then processed the result in RegiStax with linked wavelets, but I was not pleased with the results. That many frames should have resulted in a much clearer end result. This is the link to the first try: http://astrob.in/full/43095/

The next night I got a much better result. I reduced the duration to 100 seconds, reduced to 5 fps, increased to f/20, increased the brightness, and greatly improved the processing. This is the 56 best frames out of 500, stacked by Images Plus, with wavelet processing in Registax. The shadow of a Ganymede transit (eclipse) is seen near the Great Red Spot, and Io is seen just about to dip behind in the upper right.
