Description

Located near Sirius, this large nebula has reflection and emission properties, and has a very low surface brightness making it difficult to photograph. This image boosts luminosity of the nebula by adding Hydrogen-alpha emission lines as luminosity, creating an HaRGB:

10 x 600 of Ha (1x1)

10 x 300 of Red Green and Blue (2x2)

I'm not 100% happy with the processing here, as the "bubble-gum pink" is too washed out and should be more red. Also, the stars in the foreground are too blue, due to a haloed effect as a result of upsizing the image. (This is why I prefer to shoot my color at 1x1).

2013-05-29 Comments: As I look back on this one, I hated it so much that I almost didn't re-post it here as I moved over from Flickr. With the obvious stacking artifacts (this series had an amazingly difficult time registering), the blue halos and the washed out color, I almost left it out as not indicative of my continuing improvement. However, as it was my first attempt at pure Ha(RGB) without Luminance, I left it in and re-processed the same data set again tonight. I will post it again under today's date of processing, despite it being older data.
