Description

This is the Veil Nebula, a supernova remant which I've shot before, with only 3 hours of exposure. This is also perhaps the last image with the ASI1600MM I've had for two years. I've purchased the 2600MM, that should offer much better sensitivity. But I have to say, it is hard to imagine something better than this!

This was a quickie, and I forgot to record my process as I usually do! But generally:
  1. I used StarXTerminator on the linear Ha and OIII images.
  2. I combined the two starless narrowband changes first, then combined RGB for stars, then multiplied the inversions of two color images. That offered several opportunities to cleanly manipulate the images without wrecking stars, or nebulosity, or color.
  3. The narrowband isn't quite HOO; I mixed in some Ha to the green and blue channels to shift colors somewhat.

I am very happy with the amount of detail from a relatively short session. Lots of wispiness.
