Description

This is a wide field view of some beautiful nebulae in Sagittarius.

I especially like the nice glow of the blobby unnamed group up top. It looks a bit like a hand reaching out from the sky! (IC 4685 would be the palm with the smaller clouds the fingers, pointing straight at us.) Or maybe it could be a well-manicured bear paw? Whatever it looks like, I'm looking forward to imaging it with a larger telescope next year -- sadly Sagittarius is now almost gone from view from our balcony.

This is my first mono narrowband image. It took me a while to process it -- I didn't care for how green it looked with the customary SHO mapping, so I went with the pleasant flame colors of HOS (the exact mix is Red: H-alpha, Green: O-III, Blue: 30% O-III, 70% S-II). I hoped to do mono drizzle integration but it produced terrible artifacts. Maybe I'll try again later.

The star colors are pretty bad. I also took a set of LRGB subframes to see if I can paste real stars on the fake nebula colors, but the result didn't look good at all -- I'll need to figure out how to isolate the stars more precisely.
