Description

This is a new version of the Rosette Nebula with both broadband and narrowband images.

ZWO ASI294MC pro color camera.

5 hours of dual narrowband (Optolong L-eXtreme filter)

8.5 hours of broadband with a street light filter.

The dual band filter only lets in 7nm of Ha(red) and 7nm of Oiii(blue/green).

Ha is Hydrogen and Oiii is oxygen. The electrons in hydrogen give off a red photon when they drop to a lower orbit. Same for the oxygen except it gives off greenish blue photons.

I processed this image using PixInsight, with all the images processed together. I did not split the narrowband images and didn't recombine colors, so the colors are not false.

I Previously processed the broadband image fiiles and the result is shown in another image listed in my PixInsight gallery.

The L-eXtreme produces images with darker backgrounds, less noise, smaller stars and brings out the faint parts of the nebula. I'm experimenting with different ways of combining the narrowband with the broadband. Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Monty

Description: This should be my final version, at least for a while.
Broadband: 165 x 3 min = 8.25 hours.
L-eXtreme: 74 x 4 min = 6 hours.
All the lights were processed together with PixInsight. I did not change the palette.
I tried very hard to NOT overprocess this image.
