Description

Finally managed to collect some Oiii data for this very fine target.

Sh2-224 is a very faint supernova remnant in the constellation Auriga, southeast of Capella. We need a very long integration time to make it visible.
It consists of two very faint parts. Its unusually shaped shell structure has a radius of about 25 parsecs and interacts with a cavity of the interstellar medium at a temperature higher than the surrounding environment. This suggests that the rest of the supernova came into contact with the cavity in a southwesterly direction, first deforming and interacting with this structure, then expanding within it. X-ray examination determined the age of the structure to be between 13,000 and 24,000 years old.
