Description

This Abell PN, also known as PK40-0.1, is located 6300 light years away in the constellation of Aquila at a declination of +6 degrees.  It is a magnitude 14 PN which spans only 30 arc-seconds in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 1 light year.

HII dominates the rim of the nebula, with a more balanced composition just inside of it forming a broad white ring. This appears to be a young, small, and unusually bright PN.  I do not see a progenitor star.

An orange foreground Milky Way star is superimposed on the rim at 10 o’clock.
