Polar Stratospheric Clouds

Description

I set an early alarm just in case there's any of these clouds in the sky so I wont miss them as this is the peak time for pearl clouds. This is the best place in Finland to observe them, though they occur only a few times a year if even that. There are years without a good display. Today when waking up I looked outside the window and couldn't believe what I saw. I just rushed outside. The only part of the sky that wasn't covered in clouds, fortunately, was this one. it wasn't long before the normal clouds took over.

These clouds occur over the polar regions when the temperatures in the stratosphere reach temperatures of around -80 degrees celsius. They are not to be mixed with the similar, but much more common iridescent clouds.
