Description

The Eagle Nebula (catalogued as Messier 16 or M16, and as NGC 6611) is a wide H II region in the constellation Serpens. It's composed by a young open cluster associated to a diffuse emission nebula, or H II region, which is catalogued as IC 4703. The distance from Earth is about 5700 light-years, placing it in the middle of Sagittarius Arm, and contains several active star-forming gas and dust regions, including the Pillars of Creation. The cluster contains many hot bright supergiant blue stars; the age has been estimated to be 2–3 million years. [Wiki]
