Description

This is another object I wanted to have in my portfolio. We've all seen countless images of the Bubble Nebula but it wasn't until I researched it that it really piqued my interest.

What we see, are reactions apparently coming from one star. This star is known as BD +602522. It is in the Wolfe Rayet class and is a monster. The star is 45 times larger than our Sun. It produces fierce stellar winds that blow into a nearby interstellar Hydrogen molecular cloud. The winds are so strong that they hollowed out a cavity and within that cavity created the Bubble Nebula. The star BD +602522, is located to the upper right of center within the Bubble. As the winds blow away from the star, they cool and thus causes one side of the Bubble to be darker. The other side of the star is up against denser hydrogen gas which in turn glows brightly.

The really fascinating thing I found was the surrounding interior shell of the main cavity is birthing stars, again due to BD +602522. These areas are glowing orange in my image and once again are brighter on the right side of the star. Closer inspection shows that these areas are pillars similar to those in M16.

These pilars are acting like windsocks and are turned into the stellar wind coming from the star.

This image is a 3nm narrowband filtered HaSHO mix.
