Description

Until now it was not possible to produce a mosaic of more than six consecutive panels. On October 27th, for the first time, I could put together a 20-panel mosaic with only a single small cloud trespassing. The result is an image 9,000 x 9,000 pixels in size (1.5x drizzled). Captured in near-infrared (IR742nm) at FL=1500mm with 6ms exposure time at gain 200, 170fps the mosaic is composed of 400 frames each in mono-8, 10-bit ADC. The planets taken on the same evening are inserted to scale. Please zoom in and pan around.

Frankly, I am on the fence with drizzle. The larger images resulting from 1.5x drizzle bring advantages for, say, presentations while undrizzled images are sharper with higher contrast (not too much difference though) but you when you zoom in on a HD monitor you always go beyond 100%. Any views are welcome.

The images in the revision are taken at FL=1500mm. Since the air was quite unstable I decided to employ the 742nm filter instead of the 642nm. Though not at its maximum, libration was favorable in both, the north and east. I like the Beach Boys' song "Good Libration".
