Description

The Elephant Trunk Nebula, IC1396, is one of my favorite objects, and it is one that I have imaged with every telescope I own.  My latest version comes from the TOA-150 out at SRO.  Their dark skies coupled with a bit longer focal length than I have here in my backyard, made for a more detailed version of this terrific object.  The star HD 206267 that is responsible for energizing the nebula is shown in the upper middle of the image (it's the bright one).  The two smaller stars in the center of the "cavity" are also visible.  It is thought that strong winds from these stars is what "emptied out" the cavity.
