Description

Like a strange creature sporting its blue / green shell in the depths of the abyss, here is the crescent nebula cataloged NGC 6888 which appears to roam a huge star field amidst molecular clouds of hydrogen (H-alpha) about 5000 years old - light from home in the direction of the constellation Cygnus.

This emission nebula is generated by stellar winds from the Wolf-Rayet star WR136 which expels its layers and ionizes them and the surrounding interstellar matter, thus forming a Wolf-Rayet bubble.

At the top of our main object is the planetary nebula cataloged PN G75.5 + 1.7,

called the soap bubble nebula derived from its symmetrical appearance and blue / green color linked to its chemical composition mainly composed of doubly ionized oxygen (Oiii).

The formation of the latter is the result of a different process from that of the Crescent Nebula since the plenary soap bubble nebula is the remnant of a star at the end of its life.
