Description

M42 Orion Nebula is a typical northern hemisphere target along Orion's Belt, since it is used as a "benchmark" test of equipment since it is a nebula with a lot of dynamic range.

The data here is from two back-to-back evenings, but did involve different sets of flats. This is my first successful image using OAG (Off Axis Guiding). Although I am using a smaller ED80 scope, I did use the larger CGEM-DX mount. I was only doing 60 second exposure, where guiding shouldn't really be necessary with a decent mount, but it was a good practice (plus PHD performs Dithering). Throughout all the exposures, it was fun seeing the many streaks now and then (mixture of satellites and meteorites).

I am happy with these results for this equipment, but do see room for improvements.

Only filter was UVIR. Sensor was ZWO ASI1600MC-C with dew heater.

Explorer Scientific (ES) ED80 with ZWO OAG and Starlight Lodestar X2 guider.

Darks 100x60s @ 1x1 -10C

Flats 60x0.14sec and 82x0.14sec @ 1x1 -10C

Bias 200x0.3s @ 1x1 -10C

Lights 197x60s @ 1x1 -10C (3.2hrs)
