This is NGC 40 (the Bow-Tie Nebula), a tiny planetary nebula of around 80 arc-seconds in the constellation of Cepheus.

I like getting "up close and personal" with these tiny objects using scopes of long focal length, but the resulting small pixel scale necessitates a lot of integration time to pull out the fainter areas. This rendition in HOO is an amalgamation of subs from my 4m focal length Meade 16" f/10 ACF (0.193" pixel scale) and my 2.8m focal length EdgeHD 1100 (0.28" pixel scale). I chose to "shrink" the M16's subs to match those of the Edge to increase SNR, rather than take the usual route of stretching the Edge's subs to match those of the M16 (which would increase resolution). As a result I needed to trim the final image considerably. For this DSO I used subframe selector to remove subs with the worst FWHM and eccentricity measures, resulting in about a 15% reduction in integration time to just over 28 hour total. The O3 signal is weak (but not overly so), so I gave it a little more integration time than Ha.
