Description

Second ever photo with a HyperStar. I actually went out on what feels like the only clear night we've had in the last 2+ months with the express purpose of trying to collimate the HyperStar. It definitely needs it, with the stars near the corners suffering from coma pretty badly. But, conditions turned out to be way bw;/etter than forecast, so I made a run at M38 and some of the surrounding nebulae and figured I'd crop the rest.

I still suck at this. I think I messed up my flats and ended up with a weird gradient on one side that wouldn't crop out completely. I'm also not convinced I got the exposure times right. The HyperStar seems really sensitive to longer exposures in light polluted skies at f/1.9. But, still. Talk about a forgiving setup. Because I wasn't aiming to image really, I was pretty much only roughly polar aligned. I also didn't have my guide scope/camera on, so unguided. I took a few 5 minute exposures just for grins and they turned out great... well, aside from light pollution and collimation issues.
