Description

This started life as Panel 1 of a 6 panel mosaic, but after looking at this capture in Ha I was taken by the amount of nebulosity in the area and how M20 was linked through to M8. This HARGB is the outcome then of 6 hours of data using a Canon 60Da and a Ha6nm filter along with a couple of hours of RGB. Maybe one day I will finish the mosaic, but not this year.

the Ha version has been uploaded seperately

M20 is approximately 5.5 light years away and is primarily an emmission nebula (red) alongside and encompassed by a reflection nebula (blue). The "split" through the middle is a dark Nebula, just dust you cant see through, designated Barnard 85. Its in Sagittarius and when you look at wide field shots of this area it is embedded in a quite amazing Star field which I have never managed to process properly..
