Description

NGC 4565, the Needle Galaxy, is a beautiful edge on spiral approximately 43 million light years from earth. This is the first target captured with my SW Quattro 300P newtonian, taking advantage of my recent mount upgrade to swing a larger scope. With this addition I have maxed out my travel image capacity with the scope, mount, tripod and counterweights exceeding 200 lbs. Batteries, cases and miscellaneous gear take the to total over 300.

So far I am really enjoying the Quattro as with the matching coma corrector the scope is producing a very well corrected field across the entire frame on my 1600MM. Finally the stars have a nice profile and color saturation I never could get with the C11 I used previously for galaxies. The speed of the Quattro (F4) is also a big help as my imaging time is quite limited. I did make a mistake on my initial Lum subs as gain 0 for 60 seconds did not swamp the higher read noise. As a result I had to clip the background a bit hard to remove some nasty fixed pattern noise. Switching to gain 50/60s fixed that issue, but to late for this image.
