Description

M 24 is also known as NGC 6603 or Star cloud in Sagittarius. It is located in constellation Sagittarius

about 12,000 light years from earth. This object is not actually an open cluster but a detached portion of the Milky Way. M 24 does not actually have an NGC number: but NGC 6603 is visible in the finder and can be used to positively identify M 24.

It was cataloged by Charles Messier in June 1764
