IC5146, the Cocoon Nebula

Located in the constellation Cygnus and surrounded by a dense star field, the Cocoon Nebula is a dim (mag +7 - +10) reflection and emission nebula that contains the star cluster Collinder 470. It is located 3,300 light years from earth, is ~15 light years wide, and the central star that illuminates the nebula formed approximately 100,000 years ago. The dark nebula that surrounds it and forms the appearance of a "trail," is Barnard 168.
