Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a low surface brightness (LSB) barred spiral galaxy located 55 million light years away in the constellation of Eridanus at a declination of -2 degrees.  It is a magnitude 16 galaxy which spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 50,000 light years.

This galaxy structure is fascinating and very similar to others in my Irregular Spiral Collection.  The bar is clear but little other structure exists.  Numerous blue star clouds are seen in the outer reaches of the disk.

Photobombing this lovely galaxy is the 7.7 magnitude blue star HD 18463.
