Description

VdB 14 (right) and VdB 15 (left) are dim, infrequently imaged reflection nebulae located about 2600 light years away in the Milky Way's Local Arm. They are illuminated by the bright stars that can be seen on the left and right sides of the image below. These stars and several others visible in this image are members of the Camelopardalis OB1 stellar association. Type O and B stars are hot, massive, blue stars, and many of these can be seen scattered around the image. VdB 14 and 15 are embedded in a large cloud of dust and emission nebulosity, hints of which can be seen dimly in the bacground of the image.

Description: It turns out that this is one of the most difficult processing jobs that I have ever undertaken. After taking a break from the data for several days, I reprocessed it from scratch. This time, I did a more aggressive gradient removal, and I set the color balance manually, rather than rely on StarTools' automated color balance. This version is, I think, more pleasing to the eye, and it does a better job of hinting at the ambient dust in which these nebulae are embedded.

Description: One last processing from scratch, again with a manually set color balance. I think that this is the best that I can get out of this data set.

Description: Small tweaks to brightness and contrast.

Description: It seems that I cannot resist returning to this data set to see if I can improve the processing. The color balance of this version is, in my opinion, better than that of the previous versions, and the background dust/emission nebulosity is better displayed. I also scaled the image down a bit, since the detail in the image did not merit the higher resolution of the previous versions.
