Description

This rarely imaged object, also known as NGC 2282 and IC 2172, includes several reflection nebulae, an emission nebula, and a star cluster located 5000 light years away in the constellation of Monoceros at a declination of +1 degrees. This object spans 4.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a width of 6 light years.

I don't know if I have ever seen so many different distinct colors in such a small object. I see blue, white and orange reflection nebulae, a red emission nebula, and a tiny cone shaped dark nebula. Infrared studies have identified many young stellar objects in this object.
