My skies have been absolutely terrible for the last three months. I've only had a couple of partially clear nights since early November, and last night was not much better! I was forecast to have only a few clear hours, and seeing was actually not too bad. I'm getting ready to remove my EDGE scope from my observatory as I prepare for galaxy season, and with a lousy forecast ahead of me there is just no way I can collect enough DSO data to make it worth my time... plus the moon was at 70%.

I've always said I'd like to do some lunar imaging, but never seem to get to it so finally last night I bit the bullet and gave it a try. I used Sharpcap for the first time, and things actually went really smoothly.

I too three videos, one for each filter (red, green, blue) and each video consisted of 300 frames at 20ms exposure. I would have liked to take more frames, but this 62 megapixel camera has HUGE file sizes at full resolution. Each filter's video was over 35 gigabytes!

I was equally impressed with Autostakkert being able to handle the processing. Kudos to the author. It took about 40 minutes to process each channel, and I only used the best 50 frames of each video but the result was pretty impressive.

My mind is actually a little blown with how much detail I was able to capture, and despite being at 2350mm focal length I was able to fit the entire moon within the full frame chip, so no need to mosaic thankfully. (I think my computer would have choked if I had tried).

I stacked with AS3!, registered the channels with PI and performed some basic color and sharpening processing, and then finally ran through Topaz sharpen.

The JPG is only 13mb, but the 16bit tiff is 330mb!
